Carousel, Blandford Street

Carousel is an unusual restaurant as it is a very cool warehouse space with front of house staff, and no kitchen staff of its own, which has instead been hosting a series of chefs from across the world. Chefs are in residence for anything from a few days to a month and so far have been rather extraordinary. The feel is very much that of an east-end popup – tables in the concrete space are shared, there is only one evening sitting (7:30), and all are served at once. The staff are young and friendly, and the menu is fixed every day.
We have been twice and the food has been delicious and unusual. The tendency is for very modern and adventurous food, with many tiny courses of delicious morsels. In the manner of a pop-up, you book online and pay ahead – supper is £35, so absolutely not cheap, but lunch ranges according to the menu from £9-£15. Alcohol is billed separately.
